TV soundtrack composer’s taking workshop day

COMPOSER Nigel Hess, whose work includes a number of well known television theme tunes, is giving a workshop hosted by the Earley-based Trinity Concert Band next Saturday (February 23), writes Matthew Wilson.

A spokesman for the group said: “We’re hugely excited to be welcoming Nigel Hess to take our 2019 workshop day.

“Nigel is an award-winning British composer and conductor of music for TV, film, theatre and the concert platform. His scores for TV and film include Maigret, Hetty Wainthrop Investigates, Wycliffe, Dangerfield, Ladies in Lavender and many more.

“His Concerto for Piano and Orchestra was commissioned by HRH the Prince of Wales in memory of his grandmother and was nominated for a Classical Brit award.

“We have been great fans of hs works for a long time, most recently performing his Lochnagar Suite at the National Concert Band Festival finals and his Christmas Overture at our 2018 Christmas concert.”

Following the workshop, members of the public are invited to listen to the fruits of the band’s labours — in the form of a free 30-minute concert conducted by Hess at Trinity Church in Chalfont Close, Earley, starting at 3.45pm. All are welcome.
