Twirlywoos visit pre-school fair

THE Twirlywoos were the special guests at Sonning Common Pre-School’s summer fair.

THE Twirlywoos were the special guests at Sonning Common Pre-School’s summer fair.

The CBeebies’ favourites, who are bird-like creatures, delighted the children and posed for photographs.

Scores of families attended Sunday’s event in the grounds of Sonning Common Primary School, which marked 50 years since the pre-school opened.

Attractions included stalls, vintage tractor rides, face-painting, a silent auction, bouncy castles and a barbecue. There were traditional fairground games such as hook a duck and spin the arrow and visitors could throw wet sponges at a volunteer.

There was also an exhibition about the history of the pre-school, which opened in 1966 at Kidmore End Memorial Hall before moving to a temporary building next to the primary school in Grove Road in 1981 and then to a purpose-built building on the same site in 2011.

The fair raised £2,700 towards converting part of the pre-school’s garden into a Forest School learning area.

Viki Head, who organised the event, said: “It felt like the whole community came together to support us because it was such an important year for us.

“We won a competition to get the Twirlywoos to come along and the children adored them.

“The team were thrilled with the amount raised, which was quite a bit more then last year because it was a big event. There was more going on this year. We’re hoping the outdoor play area will have a cabinet full of literacy and maths- based activities.”

Mrs Head, whose twin daughters Isobelle and Olivia attend the pre-school, thanked estate agents Bridges for paying for the bouncy castles.
