Village in Bloom contest

CUXHAM is entered in the small village category of the Thames and Chilterns in Bloom awards.

CUXHAM is entered in the small village category of the Thames and Chilterns in Bloom awards.

It will be judged on July 22 and the theme is health, happiness and horticulture.

Debbie Procter, co-ordinator of the Cuxham in Bloom group, said the Half Moon pub had new planting while the bus stops in the village have been adopted by residents.

“We have new black painted steel troughs planted with herbs,” she said. “Cuxham has stunning access to the surrounding countryside from footpaths that dissect the village.

“Access to walks has been improved by clearing weeds and scrub to make an attractive path through the village recreation ground linking to footpaths.”

The village has just 130 residents and outside groups are invited to help out with bigger tasks. The National Scythe Association and the Conservation Volunteers have both visited Cuxham for working days out.

The bloom group has also been supporting naturalisation of the banks of the chalk stream through the village.

Thames and Chilterns in Bloom is one of 17 regional campaigns which make up RHS Britain in Bloom — Europe’s largest horticultural campaign.
