A WOMAN who became a viral internet star after she was photographed vacuuming the pavement outside a Henley café says she is surprised by all the fuss.
Fatima Fernandes was snapped using a Henry the Hoover outside Café Rouge in Hart Street one morning before opening up.
The photograph was taken by Charlotte Mellor, who is lettings manager at the office of estate agents Romans on the opposite side of the street.
She posted it on her Facebook page with the caption “Only in Henley”.
The post drew dozens of “likes” and was shared many times, with some people praising Mrs Fernandes, saying they did the same thing themselves.
The debate was picked up by some national newspaper websites and the Sun even suggested that the photograph was proof that Henley is a “posh” town.
Mrs Fernandes, who lives in Twyford with her husband Jose and son Joel, seven, said she was surprised at the reaction as vacuuming the pavement was just part of her usual cleaning regime in the morning.
She said: “I do it all the time at the front of the café. It needs to be clean and look nice for customers so I run the hoover over it a little bit. It’s quick and easy and it works. I don’t know why people think it’s funny. For me it’s normal.”
Mrs Fernandes, who has worked at Cafe Rouge for 12 years, added: “A friend showed me the picture and I said ‘that’s me!’.
“I was surprised to see people were talking about it on Facebook.
“I didn’t understand it because for me it’s just cleaning, I do it whenever I open the café.”
Miss Mellor was also surprised by how popular the photo became.
She said: “I was just sitting at my desk and I looked over and somebody was outside the café with a Henry the Hoover.
“I thought ‘that’s not normal’ so I went outside to get the photo and put it on Facebook.
“I’m a little bit surprised at how much attention it has got, I didn’t expect it to go viral.
“I think that vacuum should now be called Henley the Hoover!”
