Food and craft festival

THE Mapledurham Food and Craft Festival returns next weekend.

THE Mapledurham Food and Craft Festival returns next weekend.

The annual event will take place at Mapledurham House on Saturday and Sunday, August 20 and 21, from 10am to 6pm (5pm on second day) with demonstrations, events and activities aimed at families.

Up to 120 exhibitors will be selling artisan local, regional and international produce as well as traditional and contemporary hand-made crafts and gifts.

Four free sessions on barbecue tuition will take place each day and chef David Hunter will hold cooking lessons, including how to fillet and cook fish, molecular gastronomy and sushi making. There will be a special session for children aged 12 to 16 where they can learn to make gnocchi and pasta sauce.

There will also be foraging walks, providing an introduction to the wild edibles. Participants will be taught how to harvest responsibly and the best ways to process and use them.

Children’s activities will include making a cress head, a drop-in storytime corner and a treasure hunt.

A children’s cookery school will have sessions on making pizza and sauce from scratch and rainbow biscuits.
