THE club held its last ever dance on New Year’s Eve, exactly 40 years after it was founded.
Thirty-three people were at Highmoor Hall for the event after the club decided to fold due to dwindling numbers. Members handed out food and gifts to mark the occasion.
The club was founded on December 31, 1974 as a group for people of all nationalities in Henley to meet up. It had up to 70 members during the Eighties and Nineties but since then attendances have fallen.
Roger Coles, 88, of Lovell Close, Henley, was among the founding members with his wife Anna, 82.
He said: “We had to end it because a lot of the members, who were big supporters of the club, had died. The man who did the music had to stop after his wife had a stroke. The rest of us were just getting too old.
