Courageous former mayoress was fluent in Hindustani

A FORMER mayoress of Henley has died.

Elizabeth Sheppard, who had multiple sclerosis for more than 30 years, passed away peacefully on May 4.

She lived the last two years of her life at the Tower House care home in Shiplake, which she regarded as her home, and was visited twice daily by her husband Francis.

Mrs Sheppard was extremely active, loved tennis and it was hard for her to be forced by MS to give up playing.

At the time of her diagnosis, when she was in her 50s, she set a characteristic example, just getting on with the blow life had dealt her.
