OBE presented to local businesswoman

A WOMAN from Hambleden has been presented with a medal by the Queen.

Julia Carrick, who received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours for services to the British luxury industry, went to Windsor Castle to receive it. She has worked in the industry for almost 30 years and was chief executive of Walpole British Luxury, which represents 180 brands in the UK, for 13 years until a year ago.

Ms Carrick, who was accompanied to the castle by her daughters, Arabella, 21, and Charlotte-Sophia, 18, said: “It was the most incredible day. It was amazing walking in and seeing Her Majesty and I was probably a bit starstruck.”

Ms Carrick, who had met the Queen once before when she was much younger, said: “She’s the most incredible lady.”

She was decked out for the occasion in a range of luxury brands, including a Philip Treacy hat, Alice Temperley Rosa Jacquard dress, jewellery from Shaun Leane, a Bremont Chronometer watch and a pair of LK Bennett shoes.

Mrs Carrick is now a global ambassador for Walpole, which is a not-for-profit organisation which lobbies on behalf of the luxury industry as well as offering mentoring for new businesses.
