Daredevil husband nominated for award

STUNTMAN Gary Connery has been nominated for an award.

STUNTMAN Gary Connery has been nominated for an award.

The 43-year-old, of Station Road, Henley, is among 12 nominees for the Epic TV Adventurer of the Year Award.

In May he became the first person to complete a 2,400ft wingsuit jump without using a parachute.

In July, an estimated one billion TV viewers saw him parachute from a helicopter dressed as the Queen at the opening ceremony for the London Olympics.

Mr Connery said: “It brings a huge smile to my face when I look back on the year.

“What’s most humbling is people telling me how much they enjoyed following my exploits — their reaction really makes it for me.

Among the other nominees are Austrian Felix Baumgartner, who set the world record for skydiving an estimated 24 miles in October, and Alex Thomson, who broke the 10-year-old speed record for a solo trans-Atlantic crossing on a monohull this summer. Mr Connery said: “There’s a great collection of names nominated for the award, so to be recognised in the same field as them is a real honour.”

People can vote online for their favourite adventure until January 23. You can vote as often as you want and can only vote once a day.

The adventurer with the most votes will be crowned and receive 5,000 towards his next project.
