Couple’s extra reason to celebrate Christmas

CONGRATULATIONS to Luke Hearn, sales manager at Loddon Brewery in Dunsden Green, who became engaged on Christmas Day.

CONGRATULATIONS to Luke Hearn, sales manager at Loddon Brewery in Dunsden Green, who became engaged on Christmas Day.

He proposed to girlfriend Penelope Lloyd, four years after they started going out together, because he thought it was the perfect occasion.

“It might seem a bit corny but we always share the day with both our families,” says 26-year-old Luke, whose parents, Chris and Vanessa, own the brewery.

“It was nothing too elaborate. I did it first thing in the morning right next to the Christmas tree in our flat. I got down on one knee and asked her and luckily she said yes.”

Luke says Penelope, also 26, showed no hesitation in agreeing and his gesture brought a tear to her eye.

The couple met at Wallingford Secondary School where they were friends and got back in touch when they both returned home after university. Luke was at Nottingham Trent and Penelope, who originates from Wales, was at Royal Holloway, University of London.

In fact, their relationship has come full circle as they have been living together for three years in a flat on the site of their old school.

Luke says they are now saving up for the wedding, which they hope to have in March next year.

“We have a couple of ideas of where we would like to get married but it will definitely be in Oxfordshire,” he adds.

The lovebirds have just returned from a skiing holiday at Val Cenis in France and will be celebrating the good news with relatives.

I am sure their families won’t be short of beer to toast the happy couple!
