CELEBRITY chef Antony Worrall Thompson has paid tribute to a Shiplake woman who has died, aged 107.
Mabel Richardson was a regular guest on his BBC 2 Food and Drink programme, wine tasting on a Thames barge.
Worrall Thompson, who lives in Playhatch and runs the Greyhound in Peppard, said: “Mabel was just a delightful, lovely lady and was full of life.
“She enjoyed the wine tasting and got stuck in. On two occasions we had to escort her back to her quarters! She had no airs or graces.
“She had a laugh with [wine expert] Oz Clarke and she was like our programme mascot and part of the family.”
Another tribute came from Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell, who used to send Mrs Richardson — a fan — birthday cards after they got to know each other when she went to see his shows.
“I was so sorry to hear about Mabel’s death,” he said. “I got to know her well down through the years and she was a lovely lady.
“It was always a pleasure to meet her after my shows. My sympathies go out to all her family and friends. May she rest in peace. God bless.”
