PATRICIA ANN SELBY, who died at the Sue Ryder hospice in Nettlebed on March 25, was born in Newport, Gwent, on April 10, 1946.
Trish attended grammar school before training and working as a therapeutic radiographer. Following time off to raise a family in Yorkshire, she became practice manager at a GP surgery.
Trish moved to Sonning Common in 1996 and became practice manager at Priory Avenue surgery soon afterwards.
She was an active member of the Sonning Common community and attended Springwater, Peppard Congregational Church. Following her retirement in 2006, she became manager of the Christian Community Action shop in Sonning Common. CCA is the Reading charity committed to helping local people in need.
Ann-Marie Paterson, the charity’s managing director, credits Trish with turning around a shop that was losing money and threatened with closure but now provides vital affordable goods and support for the community.
Trish and her husband, Clive, raised four children, Stephanie, Gavin, Michael and Robert, and have five grandchildren with another due in June.
Trish had been bravely fighting breast cancer since 2005 but remained committed to her active life.
Dr Helen George, then at Priory Avenue, remembers how she continued to work, even on days when she had chemotherapy treatment.
After a funeral at Reading Crematorium on April 11, a thanksgiving service was held at Springwater, which was well attended by her many friends and family. This was a fitting tribute to a true Christian and friend held dear by so many.
