Record crowd for steam rally

A RECORD crowd of more than 6,000 attended the Stoke Row steam rally at the weekend

A RECORD crowd of more than 6,000 attended the Stoke Row steam rally at the weekend.

The 33rd annual event in Ipsdenwas the biggest yet with more than 400 exhibitors, 25 steam traction engines, a grand parade of steam traction engines led by the Shires Royal British Legion Pipe Band, Victorian dance and Morris dancing.

A range of model steam engines, tractors, commercial vehicles, vintage, veteran and classic cars, military vehicles, motorbikes and stationary engines were on display.

The rally is organised by the Stoke Row Steam & Vintage Vehicle Club, which is dedicated to preserving steam engines and vintage, veteran and classic vehicles.

Other attractions included live music, crafts, a tea tent by the Langtree Team Ministry, local produce stalls, a trade market. Charity stalls were given free pitches.

Amanda Waistell, who chairs the club, said: ?It was a truly fantastic weekend. We had lots of fabulous comments from the public, which makes the organisation all worthwhile.

?We are proud to show off the best selection of steam engines and vintage vehicles and rural crafts from a bygone age to the younger generation because it helps them understand how their grandfathers lived and worked.

?The help and the support of the local community and businesses has been quite staggering in enabling the rally to go from strength to strength and we thank them all for their continued support.

Next year?s rally will be held on June 7 and 8.
