Chef treats Leona, 101

CELEBRITY chef Raymond Blanc treated a resident of Watlington and District nursing home to a special birthday surprise.

CELEBRITY chef Raymond Blanc treated a resident of Watlington and District nursing home to a special birthday surprise.

He invited Leona Hughes to his restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons to celebrate her 101st birthday, along with some of the other residents and team members, including apprentice care assistant Amy Bankcroft, who was celebrating her 18th birthday.

Blanc, who met Mrs Hughes during a visit to Watlington earlier this year to support the town’s entry in the Britain in Bloom competition, surprised her on her arrival with a fresh strawberry and cream birthday cake that he had baked specially.

He then treated the group to a tour of the hotel and grounds and a champagne afternoon tea as well as singing Happy Birthday to the two birthday girls.

Julie Cooper, manager of the care home in Hill Road, said: “We all had the most wonderful day. Leona loved every minute and says Raymond Blanc treated her like a queen. She told him that her time with him had ‘made her life’. Thank you to Raymond and all those at Le Manoir who made the experience possible.”
