Mystery of mock post box on bridge

A MYSTERY post box in Sonning could be the work of a child ghost, according to illusionist Uri Geller.

A MYSTERY post box in Sonning could be the work of a child ghost, according to illusionist Uri Geller.

The TV personality, who has lived in the village for 33 years, had never noticed the red letter box until he was told about it on Tuesday.

He believes its “sudden” appearance could have something to do with Isabella, a child ghost that he claims walks on Sonning Bridge.

Geller said: “I thought it was a hoax when someone phoned to tell me about it so I went outside to look and, low and behold, it was there. I’ve been accused of putting it there myself but I didn’t. My paranormal explanation is it has been put up by Isabella, the little child who died 200 to 300 years ago.

“She has been seen by a few villagers floating over the bridge — I believe she has something to do with royalty.

“The more rational explanation is somehow someone made their way on a boat and put it up. I hope it stays a mystery because that makes controversy, which brings curiosity and that’s good for the village.

A Royal Mail spokesman admitted the post box was not genuine. “It is certainly not an operational posting facility and we have no knowledge of how it arrived at this location,” he said.
