A PROFESSIONAL from Badgemore Park Golf Club has been competing for the longest drive championship in Nevada.

Lee Gauthier was among the 189 competitors in the 2013 Re/max World Long Drive Championships which finished today (Friday).

All of golf’s top hitters were present, with ball speeds of 220 miles per hour reached throughout the contest. The finale took place along the Las Vegas speedway.

Gauthier’s trip was financed by Badgemore Park Golf Club owner Jon Connell and club member David Giles. Barry Stanley and Minesh Parmar helped sponsor the purchase of new equipment.

Mr Gauthier, who spent last year competing in longest drive competitions around Europe, could win up to $250,000 if he performs well. He qualified after scoring highly in New York and New Hampshire earlier in the season.
