SONNING Bridge will not be shut around the clock as planned.
It was due to close on a 24-hour basis for four days starting this morning (Monday), so that engineers could repair the stonework underneath it.
However, highways authority Wokingham Borough Council now says the work can be done during the daytime.
The bridge is closed for refurbishment from 9.30am until 4pm every day until November 19 at the latest.
The borough council is also replacing the traffic lights at the crossing, which is used by about 16,000 vehicles a day.
Sonning Parish Council is installing footpath lighting at the same time.
The work was expected to start last Monday but was postponed by a day due to the storm.
