A CANDLELIGHT thanksgiving service was to be held today (Friday) for the former vice-president of Henley Rowing Club.

Duncan Thomas, who served the club for more than 30 years, died on Monday last week.

He is survived by his wife Cherry, children Nancy, Rachel and Ben and six grandchildren.

Mr Thomas coached junior rowers and founded Project Oarsome. He would go to the Piggott School in Wargrave and teach pupils how to use an ergo. This led to many of them joining the club.

The service was to take place at St James? Church in Bix at 4.30pm followed by a reception at Bix Manor.

Donations in Mr Thomas?s memory can be made to the Sue Ryder hospice in Nettlebed or St James? Church via funeral directors Tomalin & Son in Reading Road, Henley.
