Woman’s stories in anthology

A WOMAN from Emmer Green has contributed to an anthology of short stories and poems for charity.

A WOMAN from Emmer Green has contributed to an anthology of short stories and poems for charity.

Irene Lindsay is a member of the Off Course Writers group, which has publised Do You Want Cake With That?

She co-wrote the collection with Norman Lindsey, Margaret Nutt, Kay Macarthar and Rosalind Hatt, who all live in the Reading area.

The group formed after the members met at a writing course run by the Workers’ Educational Association in 2011.

Mrs Lindsay said: “At the end of the course, a group of us said we wanted to carry on and formed a group.

“We set ourselves tasks for short stories and then critiqued each other’s work. Occasionally we would get a professional writer in and would meet once a month and always went home with a project to try.

“In the end we had all these stories, some of which we had edited and changed in light of what people had said. It became a very social group and always started with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.”

Money raised through the sale of the book will go to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Mrs Lindsay said: “We chose the charity as we all knew families who had been affected by this trauma.”

The book is available at the Bell Bookshop in Bell Street, Henley.
