A FORMER member of Henley Bowls Club has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Nancy Barker, of Meadow Road, Henley, was joined by 73 friends and relatives for a celebration at the Christ Church Centre on Saturday.

A congratulations card from the Queen was on display next to three birthday cakes made in the shape of the number 100. Among those present were several members of the bowls club, where she was recently made an honorary life member, and St Mary’s Church.

David Hoyle, Mrs Barker’s brother-in-law, said: “Everybody had a good time. Some of Nancy’s family had come from quite far to be there, which I was very pleased about.”

Mrs Barker was born in Swansea on January 23, 1915. In 1960, she married Keith Barker, who worked for Courtaulds in the UK and Germany. The couple moved to Henley after his retirement 19 years ago. Mr Barker died in 2012.

Mrs Barker was a volunteer at the Oxfam shops in Henley for many years and is still an active member of St Mary’s.

Her interests include a University of the Creative Arts reading group, which she participates in using a Kindle.
