Celebration lunch for 102-year-old woman

A GREAT grandmother from Henley has celebrated her 102nd birthday.

A GREAT grandmother from Henley has celebrated her 102nd birthday.

Peggy Dixon, who lives at the Chilterns End care home in Greys Road, was presented with flowers, chocolates and a cake.

She spent the day celebrating with staff and fellow residents and enjoyed a roast lunch.

Her children Pat, 74, Jillian, 72, Malcolm, 70, and Philip, 62, who live on the South Coast, had already been to visit her together with many of her 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Mrs Dixon grew up in South London and married her husband Leonard when she was 25. The couple moved to Benhams Lane in Fawley in 1968 and Mr Dixon worked as a gardener. He died in 1977 and two years later Mrs Dixon moved to New Street, Henley.

She moved to a nursing home in Didcot in 2009 before coming to Chilterns End in 2012.

Mrs Dixon paints every week with the Henley Stroke Club and keeps her mind active by solving crosswords and sudoku puzzles. She also joins in with singing sessions when local choirs visit the home.

She said: “I was amazed at the celebrations that were organised for me as I wasn’t expecting so much.

“I really enjoyed my lunch and chatting with everyone. It was a really lovely day — I must be the oldest person in the home now!”
