MORE than 20 children were given a taste of competitive rowing.

Henley Rowing Club hosted a week?s worth of training which ended with races on a 350m section of the River Thames.

The winning team were the Unicorns, made up of Beth Tait-Alexander, 12, from Sonning Common, Katie Knight, 12, from Henley, Mollie Edgar, 13, from Checkendon, and Lulu Broadbent, 12, from Caversham.

They were presented with tankards while all 24 children who took part were awarded certificates. Head coach Stan Admiraal said: ?The kids trained in singles and quads all week.

?Most of them had never rowed before and they had four days to get up to standard. I was surprised at how quickly they learned.

?As a rowing club, we?re open to the community and we?re keen to get all the kids, especially in Henley, to learn how to row.?

The club will host three summer camps on August 3, 10, and 17. For more information, email Beverley Mulrooney at manager@henleyrowingclub.org
