I forgive our goalkeeper says Royals fan, 93

ROYALS fan Ciss Platten says Adam Federici is still her favourite player despite his costly error in Saturday?s FA Cup semi-final.

ROYALS fan Ciss Platten says Adam Federici is still her favourite player despite his costly error in Saturday?s FA Cup semi-final.

The 93-year-old from Shiplake, who has supported Reading FC since 1947, said the Australian goalkeeper shouldn?t he blamed for their 2-1 defeat by Arsenal at Wembley.

Federici fumbled Alexis Sanchez?s tame shot in extra time and the ball went over the line, giving the Gunners victory.

Ciss says Federici was at fault but added: ?He tried to grab it back, you saw, from the goal and it just trickled in.

?The poor boy, he was so upset. I cried with him. He doesn?t make many mistakes.

?It was disappointing but at least we got to the semi-final. I just hope that Arsenal get beaten in the final.?

Ciss, who has lived in New Road for more than 30 years, is one of Reading?s oldest fans and was alive when they last reached an FA cup semi-final in 1927 against Cardiff.

They lost 3-0 and the Welshmen went on to lift the trophy, beating Arsenal in the final.

Her late husband John used to watch the Royals but she couldn?t go to games then because she had six children to look after. She recalled: ?I think he got fed up with me moaning and said, ?why don?t you come?? I don?t think he could believe it when I said ?yes?.?

When John died in the Eighties, Ciss continued to support the club. She says she always enjoys chanting and singing along with her fellow supporters.

?I have to watch I don?t swear,? she said. ?I?ll continue to go to as many games as long as I can ? I?ll be pushed in a wheelchair eventually. I said ?when I go, don?t go and burn all my programmes?. They said ?no madam, we?ll put them in the coffin with you?!?

She attends all home and away matches and earns her ?football money? from a cleaning and dusting job in Stoke Row once a week.

Ciss remains positive about the Royals going on another cup run. She said: ?I?m hoping for a return to Wembley ? if I?m still here!?
