THREE students from The Henley College have made it to the national final of Rotary?s Youth Speaks competition.
Sophie Walker, Tom Correy and Guillaume Gougeon have now won four rounds of the public speaking contest for schools. In their latest victory at the regional semi-final in Maidstone, the trio overcame opponents from Shepperton, Farnborough, Farnham, Chislehurst and Medway to secure a place in the national final to be held in Brentwood later this month.
The Henley team?s topic was ?C?est la vie? and they made the case for everyone to value the importance of learning a second language. Sophie, 17, from Emmer Green, said the atmosphere was competitive but friendly. ?Those competing were very supportive of one another, so it didn?t feel too tense,? she said. ?I?m not sure who we are facing in the final but we are thrilled about getting through.?
Guillaume, 16, of New Street, Henley, said: ?We were surprised but very happy to have won this round. We are all excited ? and a little nervous ? about the final.?
