TV PRESENTER Phillip Schofield presented prizes to the winners of a children’s poster design competition to promote road safety.

The co-host of ITV’s This Morning, who lives in Fawley, personally judged the 100-plus entries by laying them out on his kitchen table — and even consulted his wife Steph.

The competition, which was organised by Pc Claire Marchant, neighbourhood officer for Marlow south-west rural, was open to pupils at Danesfield, Frieth and Ibstone schools.

Speaking at the presentation on Monday, Schofield said: “We laid all the posters out on the kitchen table. They were absolutely superb and they covered lots of great ideas.

“Congratulations to everybody and well done, you did a really brilliant job.

“We live in such a gorgeous part of the world but there are quite fast and narrow roads and a lot of schools are actually on them. Just a matter of a few miles per hour and you can save a life.” The winners and runners-up were presented with book vouchers sponsored by Hambleden, Ibstone and Medmenham parish councils.

The winners were as follows:

Ibstone — Finnian Wade, runner-up — Leah Chaplin;

Danesfield key stage 1 — Johan Sheldon, runner-up — Will Clayton;

key stage 2 — Annabella Morgan, runner-up — Arwen Kaur Gill;

Frieth key stage 1 — Ella Hayter, runner-up — Cian Cottam;

key stage 2 — Emma Sage, runner-up — Sophie Wharfe.

Pc Marchant said: “The idea is to try to get children to think about road safety so they grow up to be safe road users and educated  motorists.

“Speeding and road safety are issues that come up time and time again so this is just a creative way of engaging the community and parish councils.”
