CHILD actor Joshua Hogan has made his West End debut.

CHILD actor Joshua Hogan has made his West End debut.

The 11-year-old from Nettlebed played Tall Boy in Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre last week.

A member of the Henley Children?s Theatre Company since he was three, Joshua last performed at the Kenton Theatre in December.

He has previously appeared in the UK tour of Priscilla Queen of The Desert alongside Jason Donovan.

Joshua?s proud mother Nicola said that he landed the role of Tall Boy after auditioning unsuccessfully for a part in To Kill A Mockingbird.

She said: ?The casting director was also doing Billy Elliot, so he asked him to audition for that.

?Joshua did well and was recalled to try out a fight sequence. In that he played a posh boy who got into a fight with Billy, which happens in the play.?

The story is set in the Eighties and revolves around a boy who trades his boxing gloves for ballet shoes and follows his personal struggle and fulfilment against a backdrop of family and community strife during the miners? strike.

Joshua, a former pupil of Rupert House School in Henley, had spent two years trying to land a part in a West End production.

Mrs Hogan said: ?There has been a lot of no?s. It is a very hard business to break into.

?To be cast in Billy Elliot is wonderful for him as he gets an opportunity to be in a show that is so well known. It is very exciting for him.?

Joshua had five weeks of rehearsals and will be performing two to three times a week for the next six months. He is one of three boys playing the part on a rota basis.

His mother added: ?Joshua is enjoying learning with a professional adult cast ? it is what he wanted, so we are fully supportive.?
