THE under-15s softball team at Chiltern Edge School have been crowned champions of Oxfordshire.

A home run from Harry Sayer in the final against the Cooper School from Bicester saw them clinch the title on finals day hosted by Abingdon School.

Seven teams from across the county took part in finals day having won area competitions.

Chiltern Edge, who were the South Oxfordshire champions, advanced from the pool stages and beat the Oxford Academy in their semi-final.

James Atkinson was named man of the match in the final after dismissing three opposition players in one play. He said: “We all really enjoy softball and it was great to win the county competition.

“Six of us were from year nine and six from year 10 but we all know each other well, so worked together as a team.

“It was extra special for me to get three of the opposite team out with one ball.“ Matthew Fitz-Gerald, PE teacher at Chiltern Edge and the team‘s coach, said: “The team have played excellently this year and have demonstrated a real talent for the game.“

Chiltern Edge will now represent Oxfordshire in the national finals in the autumn.
