Weather girl: Nicki Ashworth, a year nine pupil at Highdown School in Emmer Green, has won a prize in a national computer coding competition. The contest for secondary school pupils was launched by the UK Space Agency. Entrants had to write code to run on a Raspberry Pi for British astronaut Tim Peake to take with him to the International Space Station in November.
Nicki said: “My idea was to create a program to compare UK weather with the environment on the ISS and using the on-board sensors. My entry won’t be going into space but I did win the prize for the best entry in the data fusion category.”
Her prize is a trip for Nicki and her classmates to visit Airbus Defence and Space’s facilities to see some satellites before they are launched into space.
