THE general secretary of Britain?s oldest conservation body has been shortlisted for an award

THE general secretary of Britain?s oldest conservation body has been shortlisted for an award.

Kate Ashbrook, of the Henley-based Open Spaces Society, has been nominated for The Great Outdoors magazine?s outdoor personality of the year award.

She has been secretary of the society for 31 years and is also president of the Ramblers, a trustee of the Campaign for National Parks and patron of the Walkers Are Welcome Towns Network.

Her Oxfordshire campaigns include protests about blocked paths during Henley Royal Regatta and fights against path diversions.

She also supported Henley Town Council in its voluntary registration of Gillotts Field as a village green to protect it from development.
