TWO reservists from RAF Benson have received awards from the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Tim Stevenson.

Flight Sergeant Des Robson and Senior Aircraftwoman Amy Witwicki, of 606 (Chiltern) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force, attended a ceremony at Pembroke College, Oxford.

Flt Sgt Robson was presented with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for his outstanding and lengthy service with the RAF Reserves.

He works for Monarch Aircraft Engineering in Luton and has been a member of 606 Squadron since it was formed in 1998, serving all over the world.

Senior Aircraftwoman Witwicki was presented with the best Oxfordshire reservist award for service to both the army and RAF Reserves over the last 13 years.

She works as a flight operations assistant for the squadron. In her civilian life she works as an executive assistant to the chief executive of Defence Business Services at the Ministry of Defence at Abbey Wood in Bristol.

She has completed an operational tour as a passenger handler at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan and this year captained a female team that represented the squadron at the RAF’s annual Altcar Military Skills competition.

She was also part of an equestrian team and helped raise £1,500 for local charities. Senior Aircraftwoman Witwicki said receiving the award was “very humbling”.

She said: “Being in the reserves has given me a sense of achievement and amazing opportunities and I have met some wonderful people. I thoroughly enjoy everything I do with the reserves.”
