HUNDREDS of people attended a Christmas fair in aid of Sonning Common Pre-School.

Almost £1,900 was raised by the event at the village hall on Saturday which will go towards new play equipment and books. Attractions included games, a raffle and a visit from Father Christmas, who posed for photographs with children.

Parents could pay £5 for 20 “snowballs” which their children could use to pay for games, such as spin the arrow and shoot the snowball. Youngsters could also get their faces painted and decorate biscuits.

Colleen Paviour, who chairs the organising committee amd whose three-year-old son Irving attends the pre-school, said: “It was very good amount to raise in an hour-and-a-half and is the most any fair has raised for the school.”

She thanked those who donated raffle prizes, including the Reformation pub in Gallowstree Common, Johnson Matthey, Loddon Brewery and the Tandoori Connoisseur in Sonning Common.
