Craft fair attracts visitor to village

HUNDREDS of people attended a craft fair at Checkendon village hall.

HUNDREDS of people attended a craft fair at Checkendon village hall.

The annual event was expanded this year to include a second room at the neighbouring primary school, meaning there were twice as many stalls as in previous years.

The 30 stalls were selling goods including driftwood artwork and furniture, cushions, Christmas decorations and cakes and there was a raffle.

The event raised more than £500 for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust and The Willows Support Group, a charity for couples who have lost babies, which will put its share towards a new family room at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

Organiser Jill Yates said: “Footfall was a bit disappointing as last year the hall was packed but it was still well worth doing.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we had lovely feedback. We are all friends so it’s always a nice get-together.”
