Beer fest on move

A BEER festival could be moved to Caversham.

A BEER festival could be moved to Caversham.

The Reading and Mid-Berkshire Campaign for Real Ale has suggested that the Reading Beer and Cider Festival relocates to Christchurch Meadows from King’s Meadow, off Napier Street in Reading.

The event has to move due to work at the lido which has made the old site too small for the festival.

CAMRA favours Christchurch Meadows because it has bicycle parking facilities, pedestrian access from the station via the new Caversham pedestrian bridge and is 200m from the nearest houses.

If it is approved, the festival would run from April 28 to May 1 from 11am to 11pm.

There would be a small entrance marquee, a large marquee, a beer garden, toilets and food vendors.

Some residents have objected due to the large number of people set to attend, parking and parts of the meadows not being available to the public. Organisers say the maximum attendance would be 3,400.
