School celebrates Shrove Tuesday with races

PUPILS, parents and staff from Stoke Row Primary School competed in pancake races on the village green

PUPILS, parents and staff from Stoke Row Primary School competed in pancake races on the village green.

Scores of children from each year group took part in the annual event on Tuesday.

Competitors had to flip their pancakes at the start line and half way along the course before passing through a ribbon held up by parents. There were separate races for mums, dads, teachers and parents with toddlers.

Children then enjoyed eating pancakes while volunteers from the Stoke Row Independent Chapel served hot drinks for the parents.

Headteacher Charlotte Harris, who came second in the staff race, said: “This is my fourth year and I haven’t won yet! There’s a nice community feel to the day because of the villagers who help us run it.”
