A HELICOPTER unit based at RAF Benson has passed 10,000 flying hours.

The Puma 2 was upgraded in February 2015 and was deployed to Afghanistan three weeks later in support of the NATO training and support mission, Operation Toral.

This detachment alone lifted more than 15,000 passengers and more than 36,000kg of freight during last year.

Gp Capt Simon Paterson, station commander at RAF Benson, said the milestone highlighted “the remarkable commitment and excellent teamwork by the squadron personnel, the project team, industry and others”.
