TWO former art students at the Piggott School in Wargrave have had their work displayed at London galleries.

The pieces by Tara Bartlett and Claire Thurgood were selected for the Rising Stars exhibition at the Lloyds Register Gallery in Fenchurch Street and also shown at the Mall Galleries.

The works were chosen by the Henley Decorative and Fine Arts Society to be entered into a national competition organised by the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies and the Royal Society of British Artists.

A total of 348 pictures was submitted from across the country and just 35 were chosen for the exhibition, which was opened by TV presenter and former Conservative minister Michael Portillo.

Tara, 18, from Waltham St Lawrence, painted a piece called Marbles while the work by 19-year-old Claire, from Woodley, was called Peppers in Cellophane.

Tara is now working in the media industry and Claire is studying art and design at Leeds University.
