THE Challis sisters grew up with Volkswagens and now it has paid off.
Their father John is an enthusiast who owns a split screen VW camper and a Beetle cabriolet and has been taking his girls to the VW Rally at Stonor Park for as long as they can remember.
Which is why Chelsi Challis, 25, and her 22-year-old sister Daisy were at the 32nd annual event held the weekend before last.
This year, they decided to enter the Miss VW competition “for a laugh”. Chelsi, a marketing assistant at Shiplake College, said: “We heard them asking for people and thought we would give it a go.
“We decided beforehand that if one of us won we would share the prize. I was convinced Daisy was going to win and she was convinced that I would win.”
In the event, Daisy was right as Chelsi was judged the winner and presented with the £100 top prize while she was named runner-up.
And it seems that it may have been Chelsi’s knowledge of VWs as much her looks that proved decisive. Chelsi, who drives a VW Fox, said: “For the competition I was against a handful of people.
“Basically people crowd around and a compère asks you questions from the judges and then they decide the winner.
“The questions were about where you grew up, if you owned a VW, things like that. We would always go as a family and my dad is a big VW fan so I’ve grown up with the scene.”
Chelsi, who lives in Station Road, Henley, has already spent her share of the prize on dinner with her boyfriend Max Sawbridge.
