Queen’s 90th Birthday - Hambleden

ABOUT 250 people enjoyed a picnic on The Dene in Hambleden for the Queen’s birthday.

ABOUT 250 people enjoyed a picnic on The Dene in Hambleden for the Queen’s birthday.

Guests gathered on Saturday evening under gazebos and there was bar and barbecue.

Steel band the Hurricanes entertained the crowd and a fireworks display finished off the night. Organiser Teresa Russ said: “It was a great success and there was a good turnout.

“We had three sessions of the steel band and by the last session everyone was up and dancing. We have a good community at Hambleden but we’re very busy people at times and don’t see each other enough, so it was nice to watch everybody relaxing and having their picnics.

“I’m a people person so I love getting everybody together and just having a good time.

“I’ve had a lot of feedback saying people thoroughly enjoyed themselves.” Mrs Russ, who has organised the village’s previous royal celebrations, thanked the volunteers who helped this time, saying: “I was lucky to have such a good team.”

• Mrs Russ was honoured for her community charity work when she was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace last month. She went with her daughter Helen Webb.
