ABOUT 80 people attended a picnic on Emmer Green recreation ground to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
They sat eating lunch while children took part in football and cricket competitions or played on the swings.
The afternoon was organised by Catherine Baker, who lives in Grove Road with her husband Steve and sons, Matthew, eight, and Benjamin and Charlie, seven.
She was given permission to use the area by Reading Borough Council then publicised the event on Facebook.
She said: “It has been a lovely community afternoon. We had a bit of rain, which I think kept a few people away, but the turnout was still pretty healthy and the children have had a great time.
“There has been a very happy, upbeat mood all day.”
