HUNDREDS of people attended the Sonning Common Primary School summer fair on Saturday.

The fair had a carnival theme in line with the Olympic games being held in Rio this summer.

About £4,000 was raised and the money will be used towards playground and classroom equipment. The money will also be used to pay for workshops for pupils.

Organiser Helen Simic, whose six-year-old daughter Milica attends the school, said: “The event was a great success with all the teachers, parents and children working together to create a buzzing carnival atmosphere.

“The school has some fantastic groups that all the children have the chance to join, some of which demonstrated their skills at the fair including Glee, Jazz club and the school choir. We also had children from years one and two maypole dancing.” There was also a barbecue, mask-making, maraca-making, a coconut shy and stalls.

Mrs Simic, who lives in the village, said: “We would like to say thank you to Kites Kitchen, stallholders and Purple turtle for their donations.”
