The winner of this year?s Henley Standard Christmas turkey competition will serve it at a large family dinner on Sunday
That?s dinner sorted! The winner of this year?s Henley Standard Christmas turkey competition will serve it at a large family dinner on Sunday.
Anne Fenwick and her husband Brian, of Woodlands Road, Sonning Common, will cook the 5kg bird when they are visited by the families of two of their three sons. The couple, who are retired, won the Gabriel Machin turkey by correctly answering that Mr Machin took over the butcher?s shop in Henley in 1881.
Mrs Fenwick, a former secretary at primary schools in the area, said: ?We always get the Henley Standard and over the years I?ve entered some of the competitions but this is the first time I?ve won. I?m delighted.
The turkey will be the centrepiece of our buffet for 11 people and one dog! We have turkey or beef most years ? we are quite traditional. Christmas is a lovely time of year for primary schools with nativities and carol concerts and I miss it a bit now that I?m retired.?
Mrs Fenwick is pictured receiving the bird from Barry Wagner, of Gabriel Machin.
