Council has little appetite for second food festival

PLANS for a free food festival in Henley are set to be turned down.

Your Event Organisers, from Somerset, has asked the town council for permission to use Mill Meadows for two days in August.

But the council’s Mill Meadows sub-committee has recommended permission is refused, arguing that the festival would draw footfall away from the town centre.

The company, which runs a weekly market in Oxford, said traders would set up food, produce and activity stalls near the Leichlingen pavilion and that some of them would be local.

It did not specify dates for the festival but wanted agreement in principle.
