Second developer unveils plans for two new homes

A DEVELOPER has submitted plans for two new homes in Peppard amid concern from residents.

A DEVELOPER has submitted plans for two new homes in Peppard amid concern from residents.

D and N Construction, of Salisbury, wants to demolish Broadlands House in Stoke Row Road and build two four-bedroom houses.

It comes two months after London developer Property Specialists UK submitted an application to demolish Vine Lodge in Peppard Hill and build two four-bedroom homes.

Villagers raised concerns about both developments at a meeting of Peppard Parish Council, saying the houses would too big and would cause more traffic in the area. Now D and N Construction has submitted an application to South Oxfordshire District Council. It says the development would create “a positive sense of place and make a positive contribution to environmental quality”.

The site would be accessed from Peppard Hill and visibility along the road would be improved.

Acoustic fencing and hedging would be used to reduce road noise at the new homes.

The development would have six parking spaces and would retain some trees and hedging and include bat and bird boxes to “enhance the wildlife value”.

The houses would not overlook neighbouring properties.

The company said the houses would meet local housing needs, adding: “Taken as a whole, this proposal is a highly sustainable development that would make good use of previously developed land within the village while protecting important trees and local architectural distinctiveness and improving access.”

A public consultation will be held before the district council makes its decision next month. Meanwhile, a decision on the Vine Lodge development is expected to be made by the end of this month.

Peppard Parish Council had recommended approval on the conditions that:

• A transport and speed survey is carried out on the B481 from Green Trees and Peppard Hill to south of the junction of Stoke Row Road with the B481.

• A roundabout is built at the junction of Peppard Hill and Stoke Row Road funded at least in part by the developers.

• The parish council is consulted on the materials used.
