SONNING’S Blue Coat School’s U13 side retained the county cup after beating visitors Herschel Grammar School.

The hosts, who won the competition last year at U12 level, won the toss and batted first. After the loss of an early wicket, Andrew Perkin (36) and James le Fleming (12) put together an important partnership, with Perkins hitting boundaries all over the ground.

Zain Butt hit a quickfire innings while Ben Coombs added some useful runs late on to make the final score 128 all out in 25 overs. In reply Perkin and Tom Lawton-Davies bowled well at the start, with Perkin taking the first wicket before Jonathan Lillie took the second.

Le Fleming turned the game on its head, taking 3-12 in five overs. He mixed his bowling up with a number of slower balls, which proved decisive.

Max Hanshaw took a wicket with Adam Wright taking the pressure catch while George Waghorn behind the stumps pulled off a one-handed run out. Rikhil Bansal took a wicket with his only delivery as Blue Coat won the match by 62 runs.
