GREYS GREEN were involved in the best game of their season at MORETON on Sunday, just forcing a victory with three overs to spare.
Such an outcome looked far away when Greys were reduced to 21-3 after 10 overs by some excellent bowling from Newell and MacDonald.
However, Cusden and Perry resisted any further inroads and gradually went on the offensive with Perry hitting four sixes and seven fours in his 60.
The attack continued with a quick-fire 28 from Lubbock but when Cusden was run-out for 39, Moreton came back into the game and the last six wickets fell for 34, leaving Greys 185 all-out.
On such a good wicket, Greys’ total was barely a par score but when Skilleter held a brilliant one-handed catch at slip, to remove the dangerous Howat, Greys lifted their game with some outstanding bowling from Ahmed and Shafqat, who were backed up by five more good catches.
MacDonald batted wonderfully well for Moreton but could find no-one to stay with him and their innings subsided to 78-9, with 15 overs still to be bowled.
With stalwart support from last man, Edwards, MacDonald moved on to 87 but, just when it seemed that they would see out the overs for a worthy draw, Shafqat induced a catch to mid-wicket.
