WOODCOTE seemed to be cruising to victory in Sunday’s 40 overs match until the hard-hitting Mike Brundish hit a chanceless half-century to bring CROWTHORNE AND CROWN WOOD victory by four wickets.
Earlier, a half-century for JP Brouard formed the cornerstone of a solid total for Woodcote, after the experienced Crawford Anderson and Simon Fuller had put on a useful 61 for the first wicket.
Skipper, Jonny Aldridge was the pick of the Woodcote bowlers taking 2-32.
WOODCOTE’S annual match against OLD MERCHANT TAYLORS saw the tourists run out winners by nine runs on Thursday of last week.
Old Merchant Taylors were in some trouble until Ed Lamb came to the wicket to hit a half-century to help his team beyond 200.
Ryan van Heerden bowled well for the home side to take 5-27 in his seven over spell and there were two catches for veteran wicketkeeper Sam Peates.
Woodcote got off to a reasonable start in reply, but fell behind the rate. Stefan Gordon and Van Heerden did their best to up the rate, but in the end it wasn’t quite enough to achieve a victory.
