HAVING had their Chilterns League match conceded by their opponents, HARPSDEN 2nds triumphed in a hastily arranged friendly at home to EMMBROOK AND BEARWOOD 2nds on Saturday.
On a warm day and on a good pitch, Harpsden won the toss and elected to bat and were soon in trouble at 56-4 off 12 overs thanks to good opening spells from M Cobb and Wayb.
Adam Birkett and Johnny Wright started their innings slowly before accelerating towards the end to get the hosts back on track. Wright the first to go for 93 followed by Birkett for 75 in a 154 run partnership. The hosts ended their innings on 227-7 off their 40 overs.
In reply Emmbrook and Bearwood started well reaching 100 for the loss of only one wicket at the halfway stage of their innings with O Williams and S Bendall looking well set.
However, when they both departed quickly, Harpsden looked to be in prime position. The tide had changed again though as A Cobb batted well to take his team to needing 10 off the last over for victory but could not find a partner to occupy the other end thanks to fine bowling from Wright. The game finished with two balls to spare and Emmbrook and Bearwood nine short of the total leaving Harpsden victorious.
