TOMORROW (Saturday) Henley entertain a Harefield side, who have yet to register a Home Counties Premier League win this season, at the Brakspear Ground.
The form book would suggest that Henley are firm favourites to record another home win and do the double over the visitors in the match that gets underway at 11am.
At Harefield earlier in the season Henley ran out winners at something of a canter against a side that lost two key players over the winter — Berkshire stalwart Simon Macey and Zimbabwean international Justice Chibhabha — and has not managed to replace them or recover from their loss. However, nothing can be taken for granted and Henley need to ensure that they are back on top of their game for the challenges that lie ahead.
Tomorrow’s match represents the last of the timed games before a return to the limited over format for the remaining four weekends. The last four 50 over win/lose contests will be against current leaders Finchampstead (away), Banbury (home), High Wycombe (away) and Tring Park at home on the last day of the season.
Given the current standings, with Finchampstead on 224 points, Henley in second on 206, Banbury third (199 points), losers last weekend to fourth played High Wycombe on 197 points, the significance of the title run in for Henley requires no explanation. Beat Harefield and win all four 50 over games, and the 2016 championship laurels could well be Henley’s.
Elsewhere tomorrow Henley 2nds travel to Slough 2nds, Henley 3rds entertain Farnham Royal at Nettlebed while Henley 4ths travel to Theale and Tilehurst 3rds. All of these Thames Valley League matches get under way at 1pm.
