FORMER club champion Guy Phillips produced the shot of the day when he sank his second shot on the par five 18th hole to produce an albatross at Henley last Saturday in a medal competition for the Wetton Cup.
Coming out on top was 13 handicapper Peter Ferretti on countback from Len Leigh when both competitors recorded net 67s. Richard Dodds finished third on countback from Jack Fairhall on net 68. Mike Ellis was the only other player in a field of 71 players who broke par with a net 69.
The ladies’ section ran the competition of the Rouquette Cup qualifier in conjunction with the monthly medal where single handicapper Morag Broom was successful in Division 1 with a net 71 on countback from past ladies’ captains Muriel Quinsac and Rachel Hall. Division 2 was won by Erica Brady with a net 69 which was three shots better than runner-up Caroline Archibald. Nikki Donohoe claimed Division 3 with a net 69 which was three shots better than Maria Clift.
The best net score was recorded by Gay Bentley-Coleman in Division 4 with a net 66 which was four shots better than runner-up Gail Nathan.
Suzy Smith was the winner of the Barker Salver competition which also recorded a hole-in-one for 36 handicapper Ali Mitchell. Her tee shot on the second hole found the hole and contributed six Stableford points to her scorecard.
