HARPSDEN defeated PEPPARD on the last ball to win their annual six-a-side tournament on Monday.
Five teams played a round robin format followed by a third and fourth play-off match and a final.
Britwell Salome won their first two matches but lost to Adam Hurst’s Appache and Peppard, who lost their first two games, just bettered Britwell’s run rate after winning their final two games.
Wargrave beat Harpsden in the round robin phase by defending a sub-par score of 50 but had to settle for third, beating Britwell after restricting them to just 53.
In the final, Peppard elected to bowl first and restricted Harpsden to 59. In reply, Rod Birkett removed Will Legg, the day’s top-scoring batsman, in the first over with a good catch by Graham Braithwaite.
Dan Hayden steadied the ship but then, with three to win off the last two balls, he skied the ball and was taken in the deep by a diving Jones.
With two to tie on the final ball, a play and miss resulted in one bye which enabled Harpsden to squeak home by a single run.
